A suspect has been arrested and is facing six charges, including attempted murder, after a weekend bar fight in Oakville sent a man to hospital with serious gashes on his face.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday, a 21-year-old man told police he had been with friends at My Apartment, a night club near Dundas St. E. and Winston Churchill Blvd.

He told police an unidentified man, who appeared to be very angry, had approached him and began "using obscenities and was belligerent."

Police say the man was apparently angry because the victim had been dancing with a woman earlier in the night. The suspect then punched the victim in the face twice using a razor blade that was concealed in his fist.

The night club security staff managed to break up the fight but the victim suffered "very severe lacerations to his face," said police.

He was taken to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery.

When police arrived, the suspect had fled. But today, police said they caught a suspect.

Jeffery DaSanta Furtado, 22, of Mississauga, is facing a multiple charges including attempted murder, two counts of assault with a weapon and a count for carrying a dangerous weapon.

He will appear in Milton court tomorrow.
