A youth wanted in connection with a series of robberies in Toronto's west end has been arrested, police say.
The robberies began Oct. 3 when four youths armed with a handgun and a sawed-off shotgun held up the 62-year-old owner of a food store on Mabelle Ave., in the Bloor St. W. and Islington Ave. area.
On Oct. 24, five suspects attempted to rob another food store on Annette St., near Bloor and Jane streets, with a sawed-off shotgun. This time, the victim refused to hand over money and the men fled in a taxi.
Last Saturday, three men entered a home and demanded cash from a 44-year-old man, hit him and dragged him into the bathroom, where they held his face under a fawcet in a bathtub. They left empty-handed.
A 16-year-old, who cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was on probation when he was arrested Nov. 17.
He is charged with two counts of armed robbery and wearing a disguise, one count of robbery and three counts of breach of probation.
