MOOSE JAW, Sask. – A military board of inquiry has begun investigating the crash of a Snowbirds Tutor jet last month that killed a pilot and a military photographer.

Capt. Bryan Mitchell and Sgt. Charles Senecal died on Oct. 9 when their jet crashed in a farmer's field south of the Snowbirds' home base at 15 Wing Moose Jaw, Sask.

The team of investigators includes experts on formation flying and aerospace engineering.

The Tutor was flying behind a CT-155 Hawk, CT-156 Harvard II and another Tutor so that Senecal could take pictures of all three aircraft.

Four years ago, National Defence was urged to quickly replace the 1960s vintage Tutor jets.

The military says the inquiry board will submit its report to the Chief of Defence Staff before its findings and recommendations are made public.
