What is RSS?
RSS is defined as Really Simple Syndication. RSS feeds are XML code written to provide content summaries of thestar.com news. An RSS channel consists of a list of items, each of which contains a headline, first sentence or two of the article, and a link to a web page on thestar.com.
What do I need to get started?
You will need an RSS newsreader or aggregator in order to read the XML code. There are many different types of RSS readers. Many of the programs are free and can be found by Googling RSS readers. We have compiled a list of some of the more popular readers here (opens in a new window).
I have my newsreader now what?
On thestar.com you will find links that look this Breaking News. Click on the link and a new window will pop-up with an URL already highlighted. Copy the URL so you can paste it into your RSS reader when prompted - your newsreader will have a button or option to "subscribe to" or "add" RSS feeds.
My Yahoo! users.
We have partnered with Yahoo! to provide a one-click process that lets millions of active My Yahoo! users instantly subscribe to the Toronto Star's feeds and add content to their My Yahoo pages. Simply click on the button and follow the directions.
